What is Ayurveda and how can it support me?

Ayurveda is an ancient holistic system of healthcare and healing originating in South Asia, where it has been continuously practised for over 5000 years. The word “Ayurveda” is derived from two Sanskrit words: “ayuh”, meaning “life”, and “veda” meaning “science” - so the meaning of Ayurveda is literally “the science of life”. Unlike western medicine, which isolates the mind, body, and spirit, Ayurveda sees these concepts as essentially connected and imbalances in one can impact the others.

Ayurvedic postnatal care, known as "Sutika Paricharya" in Sanskrit, emphasises the importance of restoring balance and vitality to the mother's body and mind, ensuring a smooth transition into motherhood, and promoting the holistic health and well-being of both the mother and baby. The postnatal period can be emotionally challenging - especially for new parents juggling various responsibilities, and Ayurvedic practices and remedies offer effective ways to reduce stress, promote relaxation, and support mental well-being. By supporting the body’s natural healing processes, Ayurvedic postnatal care can help prevent postnatal complications and supports a smooth recovery from childbirth.
